Jizo: A gamified Digital App for Senior Cyclo-Tourism in the miOne Community. Chapter

A cyclo-tourism digital app entitled Jizo was co-designed. The results recommend a set of gamification techniques and elements that can motivate senior citizens to cyclo-tourism, being essential integrative parts of an app in this context. The game elements that were highlighted were: social relationships, progression, challenges, competition, feedback and rewards. These data support the view on the potential of gamification to motivate active ageing and sustainable cyclo-tourism.

Since 1987, Walking the World have been designing and leading small group walking tours to more than 30 destinations worldwide.

Senior Cycling

North Carolina based company Senior Cycling specializes in bicycle tours for active adults ages 50 and up. Small groups limited to a maximum of 13 participants, and are always accompanied by supporting transport, in case someone needs a break from riding. Tours are rated at three difficulty levels, from easy to advanced.

Museums’ accessibility for senior citizens: Some evidence from Italy. Eu. J. of Tourism Research

Identify the factors that facilitate or hinder senior tourists’ visits to museums. The resulting evidence captures how the accessibility of museums impacts the share of elderly visitors who have access problems and higher need of assistance and, therefore, provides useful information to improve cultural supply.

Findings suggest that 360° VR with HMD can be an effective assistive technology to foster senior cyclotourism by promoting tourism sites, simulating the cycling pedaling effect, and improving senior citizens’ general wellbeing and independence with physical and mental rehabilitation.

Silver Tourism and Recreational Activities as Possible Factors to Support Active Ageing and the Resilience of the Tourism Sector

The present research emphasised differences in senior travel preferences and a possible segmentation of silver tourists in Romania (e.g. based on their income, education level), highly suggesting that the elderly’s needs have to be addressed by tailor-made products.
