National programmes for age-friendly cities and communities A guide
Developing age-friendly cities and communities (AFCC) is a proven way to create more age-friendly environments – for everyone. This guide provides direction to national authorities and stakeholders responsible for or involved in forming or sustaining national programmes for AFCC. In relation to silver tourism, the guide identified eight domains in which cities and communities (and thus the tourism sector too) can contribute to healthy, active ageing: outdoor spaces, transport and mobility, housing, social participation, social inclusion and non-discrimination,civic engagement and employment, communication and information and community support and health services. While not a definitive list, these domains serve as a starting-point for identification of priorities and who should be involved; the list can be adjusted to better reflect the needs and priorities in each context. Sectors like housing, digital inclusion, accessibility, participation and social inclusion, health and access to services are some examples of an age-friendly tourism product.
